2000 "Local" Winners Oregon State Office

The Asian Home Buying Fair Committee presented its first and second
annual Asian Home Buying Fair on June 3, 2000 and June 2, 2001 targeting
limited-English speaking Asian communities in the Metropolitan Portland
region. This event was held in conjunction with the start of National
Home Ownership Week attracting over 90 Asian families and over 25
local sponsors representing government agencies, non-profit housing
organizations and local realty, lending and insurance businesses.
This fair uniquely presented workshops on home ownership in different
Asian languages-(Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Tagalog, Korean
and Thai) as well as in English. It helped develop a more educated
and informed consumer to become a more successful home buyer.
Community Best Practices Award, 2001
The award is given to the Asian Homebuying Fair for promoting homeownership
among diverse Asian Community and helping to ensure that home buying
information is accessible to all and not denied to anyone due to
race, national origin,and/or language barriers.

Development Award, April 3, 2002
The City of Portland Bureau of Housing and Community Development
gave due recognition to the Asian Homebuying Fair for helping to
create new homeowners and boost the City's minority homeowner rate.

2003 Exemplary Community Service Award
The Asian Home
Buying Fair Association received the coveted 2003 Exemplary Community
Service Award at the Asian Reporter's Fifth Annual Scholarship and
Awards Banquet held on Saturday, April 26, 2003 in Portland, Oregon.
The work of the Association is to ensure that home-buying opportunities
are available to persons on all Asian communities, to enhance understanding
of the home-buying process and to promote informed home buying regardless
of English-speaking abilities. Organized in the fall of 1999, the
Association presented its first home-buying fair in 2000 and annually
since then. During the 2002 fair, workshops were presented in eight
different Asian and Russian languages. Since its inception, over
a thousand Asian individuals and families have benefited from this
annual informative community service fair primarily organized by
volunteers.

The Association
for Communal Harmony in Asia (ACHA) gave due recognition to APICIA for bringing so many Asian Communities together to learn about homebuying process and inform prospective buyers.
